What Washes Away (in progress)

What Washes Away explores what comes to the surface, literally and emotionally, when whales wash ashore. We meet marine stranding coordinators, whose work offers rare access to the intimate, often unseen world of marine mammal response. Through them, the film examines how death, on a scale both universal and deeply personal, can teach us about ecology, stewardship, and our place in the natural world. As human impact on the environment creates fast and slow changes, whales across species are dying at an alarming rate. But even a single beached whale is a monument to a rich social life in a mysterious world.
